Toyota Etios Liva Overview
The Toyota Etios Liva has been facing tough competition in the hatchback segment from its rivals. Toyota had updated both the Etios and Liva back in 2016 but it still couldn’t manage to keep up with others in sales. To keep up with the sales of its rivals, Toyota has launched a new Dual-Tone Etios Liva. The new vehicles gets roof rails, dual-tone contrast roof and pillars, a front grille with a black coloured finish, new fog lamps with chrome finish, diamond cut alloy wheels and electrically foldable ORVMs.
The Toyota Etios Liva Dual-Tone is available in the V and VX trims only. The car comes with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat locks as standard. On the inside, the hatchback gets a new piano black instrument panel, rear removable headrests and a new Optriton Combimeter. Toyota Etios Liva in Tryaldrive
Toyota Etios Liva Exterior & Look
The plain vanilla styling on the Toyota Etios may be ideal for people who do not like to grab attention in their mid-life. However, when the Liva was spawned, it looked crisper than the booted brother with the better finished rear end. The boxy body with minimum curves and slashes looks contemporary. In the recent facelift of the Etios Liva, Toyota has given the vehicle an updated grille with chrome finish along with new tail lights with minor modifications in the turn indicators which now use orange glass rather than clear glass.
The major contributor to the feel good factor is the subtle body kit, rear spoiler, gunmetal finished 15-inch alloy wheels (all other Liva variants get 14-inchers) and a plethora of TRD Sportivo badges. The side skirts, front-lip, boot-lid, rear-spoiler, side-skirts and even the rear bumper is not spared from TRD Sportivo badges.
Toyota Etios Liva Interior & Comfort
The best of the features of the Etios Liva are found in the interiors, though they are of course similar to the Etios. Just as in the Etios, Toyota has put the instrument cluster in the middle portion like that of Vista. When it had been introduced by Tata Motors, it had received lot of negative comments. Perhaps at this time, the Toyota Etios Liva’s dashboard would be better received. Further, the music system is nicely placed surrounded by the instrument cluster, with blower vents and AC control knobs beneath the dashboard. Also glove box is designed well to accommodate good lot of materials and has provision of AC input to keep things cool.
The seating positioning is good and one has ample space for stretching his legs. There is good amount of head room too to help for comfortable seating for tall persons. The integrated head rest seats on the front are of alright quality, and help provide extra length for back. Steering wheel is slightly oval shaped, making it stand out a bit. In the VX variant, we find audio controls on steering wheel also. The power window switches provided on the driver side door help for ease of operation. On the rear seats of the Liva there is good leg space and comfortable seating for three passengers. Though there is good back support, one could feel the seat is bit narrow, lacking full comfort for thighs. Indeed, from the rear the car looks wider than it is on the inside.
The integrated front seats help for better support but at the same time block the front side visibility for rear seat passengers. Bottle holders are provided in the rear door panels, and would certainly be a advantage for the convenience of the passenger. The foldable rear seat provides expandable space for luggage. The seat lock is easy to operate, just a simple flip is enough to open it and fold the seat. The panel on the back can be used for fitment of additional speakers if needed and it is also detachable easily to accommodate of easy of usage of interiors.Even with rear seat in sitting position, there is good enough space in boot to accommodate for storage of two or three bags.Indeed, all in all the interiors are a great boosting factor for Etios Liva. Though, it should be noted that we saw the dual tone version, and the single colour, black interior may be less impressive.
Toyota Etios Liva Engine & Gearbox
Toyota has not made much of a change under the hood of this hatchback and thus it gets the same 1.2 Litre, 4 cylinder, 16V DOGC motor which is capable of producing about 80 Ps of peak power at 5, 600 rpm and 104 Nm of peak torque at 3, 100 rpm. The engine is paired to a 5 speed manual gearbox. The petrol unit promises to return around a claimed mileage figure of 18.16 kmpl.
Like we already mentioned above the Etios Liva hatchback is also offered with a diesel variant as well. The 1.5 Liter, 4 cylinder 8V, D-4D unit is capable of producing about 68 ps of peak power at 3, 800 rpm and 170 Nm of peak torque 1800- 2400 rpm. As you all know the the only transmission option available with both the engine is a 5 speed manual unit. This diesel unit promises to deliver around 23. 59 kmpl.
Toyota Etios Liva Ride & Handling
The suspension setup on the Liva has been setup to provide best of both worlds. The handling is neutral. Liva turns into corners quickly, thanks to the lower kerb weight. There is a bit of body roll and the steering feel is average. It is nowhere as feedback rich or eager as the Maruti Suzuki Swift or the Ford Figo in the corners. The electronic steering is light and does city duties well but it does not offer feedback or weight up at high speeds. The steering wheel in particular is not good enough to hold in the first place, it’s too big.
The ride quality is mature and the wide tyres offer splendid levels of grip. The Liva doesn’t get unsettled on bad roads and absorbs most bumps in its stride remaining reasonably composed. Braking is excellent with good pedal feel and offer quick speed shedding capacity. High speed stability is good too and changing lanes does not upset the car’s balance. Ground clearance is not an issue and we did not scrape the body kit or the under body on any large speed breakers at all.
Toyota Etios Liva Safety & Security
Toyota has taken care of the safety of the passengers inside and a s a result they actually have loaded the LIva hatchback with ABS and EBD which comes as standard across all its grades. Furthermore the hatch also gets duel front SRS airbags as well. There is also an optional rear parking sensors as well with the car.

Toyota Etios Liva Conclusion
The Etios Liva can be termed as a better late than never introduction of a hatchback car from Toyota. It is the car for people who want a hatchback with the Quality of Toyota at a good price. Indeed, the competitive price with different options is a great boosting factor for the entry variant, which is however quite poorly equipped. As features get added, the price does shoot up steeply. While the Etios Liva maintains a good quality, Toyota has necessarily compromised on a few points of brand image which one could have seen in an Endeavour or Altis, in order to provide a reliable premium hatch car in the range of 5 to 7.5 Lakh.
