Datsun redi GO Overview
Datsun Redi-GO 2016 launched in India at a starting price of Rs. 2.38 lakh, making it a part of the entry-level hatchback segment and one of the most affordable cars in India. There are total five Datsun Redi-GO variants and the Datsun Redi-GO price in India tops at Rs. 3.34 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom, New Delhi.) Under the hood, the ‘urban crossover’ has only one option, which is an 800 cc engine that uses the iSAT technology.
The platform of the new Datsun Redi-GO is same as the Kwid but the latter is slightly longer. The Redi-GO has a length of 3,429 mm, width of 1,560 mm and a height of 1,541 mm. The ground clearance of the small hatch is the best in class at 185 mm. Datsun redi GO Exteriors & Style
In terms of appearance, the designers have spent a considerable amount of time in making a clearly distinct product from the sibling Kwid. The car features a funky styling which is hardly seen in cars of its class. In fact, the company has strived hard to make it look as much as a concept car, which definitely goes into its favor. The headlights of the car are a nice workup with hexagonal grille on which the Datsun badge takes the center stage. The car also boasts of segment-first LED DRLs located below the skid plate. The 1.0L badge at the back is the only way of distinguishing the more powerful version from that of 800cc one.
What’s more appealing at the outside is the sharp cut that flows from front doors and all the way to the taillights. The rear portion poses quite a radical appearance with the taillights seems to have been taken inspiration from SUVs such as Volvo XC60 and Honda CR-V. There is also a big skid plate at the back and chrome garnish on the bootlid. The car has an excellent ground clearance of 185mm which sets it on the top of its class.

It is on the inside, that the Redi Go doesn’t seem as appealing. The interiors are decent, however it is the colour that doesn’t make it look premium. The steering wheel is small and good enough. The instrument cluster is shared with the other Datsuns. This has a speedometer that occupies most of the space. The centre console is made up of a large single AC vent, music system, three knobs for the air-con. There is some storage space in the vehicle. To begin with, there is space above the glove box, under the air-con knobs and even the door pockets are large enough. This has been designed to be practical. In terms of safety, the Redi GO gets a single airbag and even seat bels for all passengers.
The front row seats offer good enough space. Now, the other important aspect of the Redi GO is the tall boy looks. This ensures good head room for both the rows. The second row too has decent knee room and even good head room also. The rear seats lack adjustable head rests too. The boot isn’t as large as the Kwid, but it is big enough. The wheelbase of the Redi Go is shorter than the Kwid to make it more compact. In terms of features, it even gets front power windows.
Datsun redi GO Engine & Gearbox
The Datsun Redi Go has a 800cc engine that produces about 53bhp of power and 72Nm of torque. This is good enough for daily driving. The hatchback has more than sufficient power to drive in the city. One doesn’t need to shift gears that often making it simpler to drive. On the highway, it has decent performance. The engine isn’t very noisy and it has decent NVH levels. This hatchback has good enough power and more than sufficient to cruise on the highway at 90 km/hr. The power delivery is linear and the refinement of the engine is good. Datsun Redi-GO mileage is claimed to be 25.17 kmpl. However, how the car actually performs is something that we will have to watch out for. The competing Alto 800 delivers around 18 kmpl in the city and 20 kmpl on highway, whereas Renault Kwid offers 25 kmpl. The claimed mileage of the new Datsun Redi-GO is quite impressive but what it offers in day-to-day driving is what will ultimately matter.
Datsun redi GO Driving Dynamics
Well, the first thing you notice when you are on the seat is that you sit pretty high. Almost SUV like. This is a good thing as it give a commanding view of the road and also improves all round visibility. The suspension setup is better than most cars in the segment. It handles bad roads pretty well. We found the ride to be a bit stiff. This could be to balance the additional ground clearance in the car which is best-in-class at 185mm. We were surprised with the way the RediGO went about on large speed breakers. Clearly, this is a shot in the arm for this car.
Datsun redi GO Safety & Security
With the lack of ABS, the overall braking is still consistent with easy modulation. Like the other budget cars, the brakes suit only the class of easy-driving people. The car does get driver side airbag, central locking system, engine immobilizer, front seat belts with pre-tensioners and child safety locks in the safety department.

Datsun redi GO Verdict
We think that 2016 Datsun Redi-GO has the potential to challenge the competitors but the maintenance costs can pose a challenge. The car looks smart and different with its “tall boy” design, and is comfortable on the inside in the front seats. Let’s keep an eye on how far this takes the Datsun Redi-GO.
